Product Q&A -Lion Coffee

July 16th, 2008 · No Comments

We get lots of question from our customers and while most answers can be found on our website either in the product pages or the Info pages we occasionally post answers to some of them here in our blog. :-)

One question we’ve had over the years pertains to the delicious Lion Coffees that we sell:

Q: “Why are some bags of your Lion Coffee hard like a brick and some fluffy with air?”

A: Lion Coffee is vacuum packed in plastic coated multi-ply aluminum bags. These special bags have a freshness valve which allows natural gases that come off of freshly roasted coffee to escape. This valve is one way so it won’t allow air back into the bag, thus preserving the freshness of the coffee. Generally, the brick hard bags may become fluffy in a few days after packaging. Sometimes in air travel, the differential in pressure in the unpressurized cargo cabin will literally suck the air out of the bag, making the bag brick hard again. The hardness or fluffiness of the bag is not an indication of its freshness or age. Lion Coffee products have a one year shelf life.
