Spring is in the air and kid’s thoughts are turning to Summer while day-dreaming of “no more teachers… no more books… no more…” well, you remember!
Of course we all know that about a week or two after they’re off they’re going to be following you around the house, complaining that they’re bored and there’s nothing to do.
Well, we’ve put our heads together to help you out by coming up with 5 cheap, (or even free), things you can suggest:
1. Go to the beach. Of course this is our favorite choice as here at BeachTrading.com we’re all beach lovers! You’ll have to pop for gas and maybe parking but once you’re there your kids can have hours of fun and all you need to do is relax in your beach chair. Of course you need to slather on some sunscreen and get them in their rash guards so they don’t get fried in the sun, but after that let the sand fly!
2. Go to the park. Who doesn’t love a picnic? Get out of the house, turn off the air conditioner, (save some money on your utilities), and head off to a shady spot on some nice, cool grass. Pack some snacks, games and toys and let your rascals run around and burn some energy on the jungle gym.
3. Go for a bike ride. I don’t know about you but we’ve got bikes sitting way back in the garage that we seem to forget are there! Drag them out, tell your kids if they clean them off and fill the tires you can all ride down to get an ice cream cone.
4. Take a hike. Literally… take a hike! Just because we use the term ‘hike’ doesn’t mean you need backpacks, maps and walking sticks. Depending on where you live you can alter that to Take a walk. If it’s warm and sunny be sure to bring plenty of water and wear your sunscreen and UV protective clothing, (even if it’s not sunny as the sun’s UV rays can burn you right through the clouds). Look for interesting birds, admire local architecture… whatever surrounding you’re in make it interesting and engage your kids.
5. Get out the chalk. This one took us back to our own childhoods! For a few bucks you can get a bucket of chalk and let your kids go wild on the sidewalk in front of your house. You may be surprised at the creativity that will be unleashed. Be sure you take a picture before you hose their artwork away leaving them with a blank canvas for the next day.
We’re sure there are many more inexpensive activities you can suggest to your kids and when we think of them, (or our readers email them to us), we’ll post more so check back after you run through these five! ![]()
