Surfrider Foundation 25th Anniversary

October 9th, 2009 · No Comments

Happy birthday to you, happy birthday to you, happy birthday dear Surfrider Foundation… happy birthday to you… and MANY more!!

We here at Beach Trading are happy to announce that the world-famous Surfrider Foundation is 25 yrs young and tonight they’re having a big bash to celebrate their anniversary.  :-)

The big gala will be held at the California Science Center in Los Angeles and promises to be the event of the year!

To kick off the night they will be hosting the third installment of their Art For The Oceans auction series. They’ve gathered the biggest names in contemporary art – Shepard Fairey, Barry McGee, Raymond Pettibon and more – and asked them to interpret 25 of the world’s most iconic surf breaks; Pipeline, Teahupoo, Cloudbreak, Malibu and more.

They will be presenting their prestigious Keepers of the Coast Award. One of the highest honors that Surfrider Foundation bestows, this award is given out only once every five years to those celebrities who’ve made significant contributions towards helping Surfrider fulfill its mission of protecting our world’s oceans, waves and beaches. This year they’ll be honoring Pearl Jam, Incubus and David Chokachi.

To close out the evening the band Camp Freddy will blow the roof off.  If you’ve never seen Camp Freddy you’re in for a treat – think of it as the world’s greatest party band (made up of members of Jane’s Addiction, The Cult and Guns N’ Roses). There’s always a surprise or two – usually in the form of special guest appearances. Who that might be we’re they’re telling…

DJ Tina T will be there to keep the beats bumping and to top it off, we’ve asked Mark Hoppus from Blink-182 to host the whole thing!

All that PLUS they’ve got a hosted bar and food all night!!
