Thought California’s Malibu Beach was a secluded hideaway for only the rich and famous to surf, swim and sunbathe?
You’ll be happy to know that the rest of us poor saps have just as much right to access our State’s coastline as the celebs who call the ‘Bu their home. Residents of this notoriously public-unfriendly city try to keep the rest of the world at bay with all their scary warning signs, but all California beaches are public below the mean high tide line (working definition: the wet sand).
Starting next weekend the Los Angeles Urban Rangers will hold their annual Malibu Public Beaches safari where you can learn how to find, park, walk, picnic, and sunbathe on a Malibu beach legally and safely.
Saturday, June 14, 11am-2:30pm (East Malibu)
Sunday, June 15, 11am-2:30pm (West Malibu)
Sunday, July 27, 9am-12:30pm (East Malibu)
Saturday, August 2, 3pm-6:30pm (West Malibu)
Sunday, August 3, 3pm-6:30pm (East Malibu)
The safaris are free but space is limited so visit their site to RSVP via email as well as download PDF maps of the accessible beaches.
Last but not least don’t forget the water and the UV protective clothing.
